Automations conformance

What the Coven Automations contract has been tested against, profile by profile, and the exact revisions of every input it depends on. No profile is certified yet.

3 min read

This page is the compatibility and conformance ledger for Coven Automations. It reports each conformance profile separately and names the exact revision of every input, so nothing here reads as a single "compatible" claim. The tables render from pinned copies of the upstream manifests, audit inventory, and dependency pins at the reviewed commit.

Nothing is certified

Both contract profiles are proposed and not production-ready. The upstream audit runs with the decision scope audit_only: it cannot emit a release_eligibility result or claim the aggregate full profile, and its own documentation says passing output is not release certification. No conformance result is published, in the repository or on a release. Treat the evidence below as what upstream CI exercises, not as a certification.

Profiles

A conformance result reports seven profiles separately, each passed, failed, incomplete, or not_applicable. This table lists them with the audit suites upstream maps to each one:

Conformance profiles and their audit suites

  • structural covers the contract's objects and rules: definition validation and lifecycle, command adoption and envelopes, capability negotiation, the event reducer, receipt integrity, and terminal-state immutability.
  • scheduler_reliability covers the scheduling behavior on Automations scheduling, plus scheduler leadership fencing.
  • runtime_authority has a single suite, for holding a run on terminal evidence during recovery. The rest of the Runtime Authority profile has no audit suite yet, and the daemon does not wire it into dispatch.
  • continuity, privacy, and interoperability have no audit suites, so the audit cannot report them.
  • full is an aggregate. The audit runner never claims it, and the result verifier accepts full only when all six component profiles passed.

How upstream runs the audit

The audit runs every suite against the native coven binary built from the exact checkout, through the daemon's own code paths on temporary stores. In upstream CI:

  • the Linux Rust test job runs the audit for each change that affects Rust code, and uploads its result, provenance, and the protocol bundle as a workflow artifact kept for 14 days;
  • the Rust test suites on Linux and Windows, and on macOS for pushes, also require every suite to pass;
  • the runner's own unit tests run on every change.

Nothing in CI publishes the audit result, signs it, or attaches it to a release. A release_eligibility result would also have to be signed with a trusted key and bound to an exact release policy, subject artifact, and environment.

The two contract manifests also list the proof each profile will require before it can stabilize. Those lists use their own suite names, which do not map one-to-one onto the audit suites above.

Component ledger

Every input the contract and the daemon depend on, with its exact revision at the reviewed commit. Every repository named is under OpenCoven, and each commit links to its full hash:

The Familiar Contract and Threads rows have two revisions each. The Runtime Authority specification was written against one revision of each upstream contract, and the daemon compiles a different one. Read a Runtime Authority claim against the specification revision.

These components have no pinned revision in OpenCoven/coven, so this ledger reports no conformance for them:

  • the Psyche adapter, tracked in OpenCoven/psyche#18;
  • the SDK, tracked in OpenCoven/sdk#80;
  • Cave, tracked in OpenCoven/coven-cave#5217.

Release artifacts

As of 2026-10-08, the latest Coven release, v0.4.8 (published 2026-10-03), attaches both contract bundles, coven-automations-v1-contract-eb3273e19670d2ab5bf1374783d96c11a50b0be2.tar.gz and the matching coven-automations-authority-v1-contract-… bundle, built from eb3273e, alongside the CLI archives and SHA256SUMS. That commit is older than the reviewed commit above, and the release attaches no conformance result. Upstream CI also builds both bundles for every commit as workflow artifacts.

Runtime Authority inputs

The Runtime Authority profile pins the exact upstream files it was written against, by repository, commit, size, and SHA-256:
